2009 Gallatin Library Events
The Summer Reading Program packets are available now in the children's department for parents/grandparents to pick up. Children keep a reading log of the books they read during the week and bring it with them on Fridays. The reading log serves as their "ticket" to attend the reward events. The first reward day is Friday, June 12th. We will have two programs to accommodate the crowd. The first program begins at 10:30 and the second at 12:00. Usually, younger children attend the earlier event because they need to get home for lunch and a nap. But, parents are welcome to attend the time that best suits their needs.

The Schedule of Events is as follows:
July 3: No program.
July 10th-Inflatables and a Pawfect Pals Workshop (Similiar to Build-a-Bear).
July 17th-The Musical Zoo, from the Country Music Hall of Fame, will be here.  Also, Bubble Day for toddlers (at the library) begins at 10:00.
July 24th - Final Reward Day is July 24th- First group meets at the library at 9:30. We'll walk to the Palace Theatre and have time to get free Cokes and popcorn before the movie begins at 10:30. Second group meets at the library at 12:30. We'll walk to the Palace Theatre and be ready for the movie to begin at 1:30.

Other programs are planned during the week for children. Stop by the library to pick up a monthly calendar or check our web site at www.gallatinlibrary.org.  For more information contact Anita Link, Children's Librarian, at (615) 452-1722.

The 2010 Census – A Great Way to Earn Extra Money

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting temporary part-time census takers for the 2010 Census. The pay is good, the hours are flexible, and the work is close to home.  Census taker jobs are excellent for retirees, college students, persons who want to work part-time, persons who are between jobs, or just about anyone who wants to earn extra money while performing an important service for their community. Donors Choose is a national, non-profit organization designed to help teachers get needed supplies for their classrooms.  Teachers submit proposals to Donors Choose, and Donors Choose reviews the requests and places them on their web site.  At this point, any individual in the world can search the database for proposals they would like to fund in whole or in part.

Once the project is fully funded, Donors Choose ships the requested supplies directly to the teacher.  The teacher sends a thank-you letter [through Donors Choose] to the donor who completed the funding on his/her proposal.  In addition, the teacher sends thank-you letters from each student along with photos of the class using the donated supplies.

It's actually quite fun to see how this works!

Donors Choose has just opened their program to teachers in Tennessee.  We encourage teachers in Gallatin and surrounding areas to submit proposals to Donors Choose!

About Gallatin, Tennessee

Gallatin is the county seat of Sumner County, Tennessee and is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Nashville.  Gallatin sits beside Old Hickory Lake which is world-famous for its fishing and other recreational activities.  Many people find Gallatin to be the perfect place to live: beautiful homes, good schools, vibrant industries, great shopping and restaurants, good roads, and nice people.

The extension of TN 386 was completed in 2007.  This means that you can drive on four-lane, limited-access freeways all the way from Gallatin to Nashville.  Because of the new freeway, Gallatin has become one of the hottest real estate markets in Middle Tennessee.
