Emissions Testing

In order to renew tags for your car, your vehicle must pass a yearly emissions test if:

red dot It is a gasoline-powered vehicle 1975 or newer with a gross vehicle weight of 10,500 pounds or less.  (Weight information is located on the vehicle's door jam.)

red dot It is a diesel-powered vehicle 1975 or newer with a gross vehicle weight of 10,500 pounds or less.

Vehicles from model year 1974 and before, electric cars, motorcycles, and antique cars are exempt from testing.

There is one emissions testing center in Sumner County which is located off of Highway 31-E south of Gallatin.  This is across the street from Volunteer State Community College.  The address is 951 Grassland Place, Gallatin.

There are also testing stations in Murfreesboro, Franklin, Lebanon and six in Davidson County which you are free to use.

The station in Gallatin is open from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday; from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday; and closed Saturday and Sunday.
